The electrical system on the Sprite is straightforward, in that there are few sensors, and three major electro-mechanical parts that needed to be preserved. Here we show the dynamo, the starter motor and the distributor being stripped down and repaired. The wiring loom fitting is also illustrated.

Many Sprite owners decide that the original BMC Dynamo design is inadequate for their needs and upgrade to a more modern alternator. Here the original was renovated and refitted to the engine, with a new fan belt, and a four blade cooling fan.

On the whole the starter motor was in pretty good condition.

The original distributor proved rather unreliable, and starting the engine on some occasions proved frustrating. Therefore an authentic looking new positive earth electronic ignition system was installed.

By modern standards, the wiring was relatively straight forward. Colour coded flex corresponding to the original, single page wiring diagram, the rear brake lights worked first time!
