History

The history of the “Frogeye Sprite” is well documented, its design origins can be charted back to the Austin Type 65 and forward to the Mazda MX5?

It was the result of the desire to replace the pre-war Austins with a product that filled the niche market identified by Leonard Lord, (BMC Managing Director) for an inexpensive fun sports car. He approached Donald Healey (after the success of the Healey 100) to embark on the project. Here we give a brief history looking at Design and Manufacture and Marketing.
