The Engine Rebuild

There were three distinct parts to the engine rebuild. Dismantling, cleaning and checking. Then there was the repainting and preparation. The the refitting of key components, such as the carburettors.

The engine in its “raw state, dismantling started.

The external components removed, the engine was cleaned, stripped and repainted in the correct shade of BMC engine green.

The engine rebuild culminated in the connection of the refurbished gearbox and clutch.

A major component to keep the engine cool is the radiator. Many Austins had a reputation for overheating, even to the point of needing a factory re-design, upgrading the cooling fan to a four blade from the original two blade. So a good radiator is critical. Note the original Tudor washer bottle. Winscreen washers were a factory fitted option in 1960!
